Richard Schmidt

Dr. Schmidt has been a cerebral vascular nuerosurgeon at the University of Utah since 1993, providing comprehensive care of patients with vascular malformations. He was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area and received his undergraduate education at Brown University. He earned his MD and PhD at the University of Iowa and did his residency in nuerosurgery at the University of Washington in Seatle. In addition, Dr. Schmidt did postdoctoral research in neural plasticity and transplantation at Lunds University in Sweden and a year of neurosurgery training in London. In addition to his clinical duties at the University of Utah, he carries out NIH funded research on brain trauma and recovery. He is the recipient of the Neurotrauma and Critical Care Award from the Congress of Neurological Surgeons/American Association of Neurological Surgeons. He has authored over 30 papers and is a member of numerous professional societies.

Dr. Schmidt provides consultation and management for HHT patients with vascular malformations of the brain.
