Newborn Intensive Care Unit
Welcome to NBICU, a 48-bed unit that cares for critically ill newborns with gestational ages ranging from 23 weeks to more than 40 weeks. One of 15 NBICUs nationwide that participate in research with the National Institutes of Health, we provide family-centered care and are working to obtain Baby Friendly status by 2008. We care for neonates with a full range of medical challenges, including:
- Prematurity
- Pulmonary Disease
- Low and very low birth weight
- Infectious diseases
- Perioperative care
- Congenital anomalies
- Drug withdrawal
- Birth trauma
The advantages of working as an NBICU nurse include:
- An orientation program with 2½ weeks of teaching and four to six weeks with a clinical preceptor
