Bariatric Surgery - Surgical Weight Loss
Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding
With no cutting or stapling of the stomach, lap-banding places an adjustable band around the upper stomach. Once in position, the band is inflated with saline through a port which is secured to your abdominal wall. This creates a small stomach pouch that reduces the amount of food that your stomach can hold at one time. This helps you gradually lose weight by creating a feeling of fullness with small amounts of food.
- Patients lose up to 50 percent of excess weight over 3-5 years.
- Weight loss should be steady and progressive
- No restrictive symptoms (heartburn, vomiting, discomfort, excessive difficulty eating a wide range of foods)
- Loss of excess weight should occur over a period of 3 to 5 years.
