The Burn Center is a 12 bed adult and pediatric critical care unit located at the University of Utah Hospital. We provide care to patients who have been acutely injured from a thermal, chemical, electrical event or a hypothermic exposure and require specialized wound care. We provide intensive, intermediate and rehabilitation care. In addition to 12 patient rooms, the burn center includes a therapy department, operating room, wound care room, and an outpatient clinic area.
The burn center admits 300-350 acute burn patients each year. The outpatient clinic averages 5000 clinic visits per year. In addition to burn patients, the Burn Center treats patients with toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) and soft tissue infections which require surgery and specialized wound care. We serve the largest geographical area of any burn center in the country as well as participate in a telemedicine program.
