Coronary CT angiograms

  • A coronary CT angiogram allows the radiologist to see the vessels that supply blood to your heart muscle.  These vessels are called the coronary arteries.

Your doctor might request a CT angiogram to look for narrowing or blockage of the coronary arteries.

CT for Calcium Scoring

  • A CT scan can be used to detect coronary artery disease (CAD) at an early stage when there are no symptoms.  Your doctor may request this screening study if you have risk factors for CAD. Usually, contrast is not needed for this exam.

Gated Cardiac CT for Cardiac Function

  • Although you will lie still for a CT scan, your heart is constantly moving with each heart beat.

A Gated CT study coordinates the CT scanner to collect images “between” heart beats.  This method dramatically reduces the total radiation dose.  It also provides very clear images of your heart.

CT Angiography of aorta and peripheral arteries

  • A contrast agent is injected into targeted arteries, and x-rays are taken to locate the narrowing, blockages, or other abnormalities of the arteries.

MRI for Cardiac Viability & Function

  • MRI scans can provide detailed information on the condition of your heart. An MRI is sometimes used to evaluate the motion of your heart.   An MRI can also be used to measure damage to heart muscle (myocardium) after a heart attack or disease process. This can tell your doctor information about how well your heart is working to pump blood throughout your body.

MRI Cardiac Stress Test

  • We can use MRI to evaluate the blood flow to your heart muscle (myocardium) while your heart is “exercised” with a medication.

MR Angiography

  • Your doctor may request an MR scan to look at the blood vessels such as the aorta.
A CT angiogram can be used to look for aneurysms, dissections and vessel disease.
