What is Interventional Radiology?

Interventional Radiology (sometimes abbreviated as IR) is a sub-specialty of radiology in which minimally invasive procedures are performed using X-ray fluoroscopy (live action or real-time x-ray imaging).

What is Interventional Radiology used for?

Some procedures are done for diagnosis, while others are done for treatment purposes.  In all interventional radiology procedures, x-ray fluoroscopy is used to guide needles and catheters to the area of interest.
