Preventative Cardiology

What is Preventive Cardiology?

The program specializes in prevention and the treatment of heart problems, with a focus on prevention and rehabilitation. You will receive a comprehensive cardiovascular risk assessment. Based on the results, a team of physicians, nurses, exercise physiologists, and nutrition experts will create an individual plan and educate you on how to improve your heart health.

Who can benefit from our services?

If you have a family history of heart disease, are concerned about high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, smoking, or if you are recovering from a heart attack or surgery, you can benefit from the Preventive Cardiology program at University Healthcare.

Preventive Cardiology can help those who would like to:

  • Reduce their risk for heart disease
  • Prevent a first heart attack
  • Reduce chances of another heart attack
  • Prevent or delay the need for angioplasty, stent, or bypass surgery
  • Improve lifestyle and quality of life

Cardiac Rehab

Cardiac Rehab is a program that includes exercise and education specifically designed for people with heart disease.

  • If you are adjusting to life after a heart attack or living with certain other heart diseases, cardiac rehab can help you feel better.
  • Don't let advancing age hold you back from joining the program. Even if you're older than 65, you are just as likely to benefit from cardiac rehab as younger people.

Education Classes

Weekly patient and family education classes are offered. They include topics such as:

  • Nutrition
  • Risk factors for heart disease
  • Exercise
  • Emotional challenges of heart disease

Individual education is also provided to help you optimize your quality of life and attain your individual goals.
