About

Valvular heart disease occurs when your heart's valves do not work correctly. This causes the heart muscle to work harder in order to circulate the right amount of blood through the body. Valve disease can eventually lead to congestive heart failure or CHF. The cardiologists at the Cardiovascular Center offer a range of treatment options. Whichever specialist you choose to work with, they will walk you through their recommended treatment.

Valve Repair Treatments

Some of the surgical treatment options your specialist may recommend are the following:

  • Valvuloplasty, which strengthens leaflets to close the valve
  • Commissurotomy, which thickens valve leaflets
  • Decalcification, which removes calcium buildup
  • Repair of structural support, which replaces or shortens the cords that give the valves support
