AirMed was established in 1972 as the eighth air medical transport program in the nation. Since its founding 35 years ago, AirMed has grown into an outstanding air medical transport service, and in 2006 was named the international air medical service program of the year. Based at the University of Utah Hospital-a major academic and teaching hospital, Level 1 trauma center, and home to the only burn trauma unit in the Mountain West-AirMed transports more than 2,500 patients a year from throughout Utah and the Mountain West.
