Brief Summary

The purpose of this study is to determine the prevalence of radiographic findings of hip abnormalities in senior athletes who have been active throughout life. Additionally we will validate a novel lower extremity computer adaptive test that uses itemized response theory. Validation will occur in the senior athlete population as well as our clinical population.

Inclusion Criteria

Inclusion Criteria:

Senior Games

  1. Male or Female
  2. Age ≥ 50 years old
  3. Senior Athletes: participants from the following hip-impacting sports: badminton, basketball, cycling, golf, mountain biking, race-walking, racquetball, road racing, soccer, softball, tennis, track & field, triathlon and volleyball.  While there will not be a formal control group, participants will include competitors in non-hip-impacting sports (archery, bowling, bridge, cowboy action shoot, horseshoes, shooting, swimming, table tennis, and lawn-bowling) who may or may not have a significant history of impact sports over their lifetime.

Clinical group:

1. Patients with hip and knee pathologies will be selected from Drs Pelt and Peters' practices in order to validate and compare outcome scores in groups with and without arthritis and after THA. 

Exclusion Criteria

Exclusion Criteria

  1. Senior athletes will be excluded if they have bilateral total hip replacements
  2. Clinical patients: None.
