We hypothesize that maternal immunologic factors contribute to the spectrum of disease severity associated with puerperal GAS infections. In order to explore this hypothesis, we propose evaluating immunologic factors in women we have previously identified as having had a puerperal GAS infection.12, 13 This is essentially a pilot study.
Women (18 years and older) previously identified as having puerperal GAS infections between 1991 and 2007 will be contacted for enrollment. The only procedures involved include a brief medical and obstetric history.
Control samples will be obtained from an ongoing tissue bank study (IRB #10535).
