Brief Summary

 

The objective of this research is to determine the number of steps an orthopaedic trauma patient whose rehabilitation includes a walking boot cast takes in the period the participant wears the walking boot cast.

Inclusion Criteria

                  Study:       

                  1.    Age 18 years or greater

2.    No known prior to injury problems with balance or ambulation

3.    No known prior-to-injury activity limitations

4.    Below-the-knee fracture rehabilitated in a walking boot cast

5.    Access to a computer and internet

Controls:

1. Is the patient 18 years of age or older?

2. No known prio to injury problems with balance or ambulation

3. No known prior to injury activity limitations

4. Access to a computer and internet

Exclusion Criteria

 

Study:

1.    Prisoner

2.    Pregnant woman

3.    Non-English speaking

4.    Unable to understand informed consent process (self reported)

5.    Unable or unwilling to use the FitBit monitor correctly

6.    Unable or unwilling to upload the FitBit monitor data

Controls:

1. Prisoner

2. Pregnant Women

3. Non-english speaking

4. Unable to understand consent process (self reported)

5. Unable or unwilling to use the FitBit monitor correctly

6. Unable or unwilling to uplead the FitBit monitor data

7. History of lower extremity orthoadic trauma (ever)
