Brief Summary

The purpose of this prospective study is to evaluate the effect of a standardized early weight bearing physical therapy protocol that utilizes immersion therapy on the clinical outcomes of lower extremity periarticular fractures. This study will follow qualifying patients of the UUOC Trauma Division that have lower extremity periarticular fractures and are undergoing the standard of care post-operative routine for the indicated injury.

Inclusion Criteria

Male and female adults at least 18 years of age, who are treated for periarticular fractures of the lower extremity. The type of periarticular fractures included will be: acetabular, tibial plateau, tibial plafond fractures.

Exclusion Criteria

Wound complications deemed to be unsafe for immersion, multiple extremity articular fractures, other injuries that preclude their safe participation in physical therapy.
