Brief Summary

The purpose of the study is to evaluate tissue samples from torn rotator cuff tendons for the presence and amount of apoptosis as well as the expression of LRRC3B.  We will compare the case samples to control rotator cuff tendon tissue from patients undergoing fracture surgery.

Inclusion Criteria

Case inclusion: Any patient over the age of 40 undergoing arthroscopic rotator cuff surgery for MRI confirmed full-thickness supraspinatus rotator cuff tear by Dr. Tashjian.

 

Control inclusion:Any patient over the age of 40 undergoing open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) of a proximal humerus fracture by Dr. Tashjian, Higgins, Kubiak or Rothberg.

Exclusion Criteria

Case exclusion: Any patient undergoing rotator cuff surgery without a full-thickness tear or revision surgery.

 

Control exclusion: Any patient with a prior history of shoulder pain, dysfunction or surgery and any patient with a rotator cuff tear identified at the time of the surgery.
