Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis
Approximately 6-42% of individuals with psoriasis will develop an inflammatory arthritis known as psoriatic arthritis (PsA). PsA causes swelling, redness, pain, and joint stiffness. If left untreated, structural joint problems can occur. Because PsA can be difficult to differentiate from more common causes of arthritis, consultation with a joint specialist such as a rheumatologist is recommended.
Combined Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis Clinic
Patients with both psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis may benefit from combined management as that offered by the Psoriasis and Psoriatic Clinic at the University of Utah. The goal of this clinic is to offer efficient co-management of this complex set of diseases. Patients who have been diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis or suspected of having this disease may be referred by their primary physician. For questions about referrals, please call the Dermatology/Rheumatology Coordinator at (801) 585-7638.
