when to see a dermatologist

Same Day Dermatology

when to see a dermatologist

Making an Appointment

Patients or providers MUST schedule an appointment at 801-581-2955. Online appointment requests are not possible for Same Day appointments. Providing an appointment time decreases wait times in clinic, so we can serve patients better.

The schedule will be open each morning at 8:00 am (Tuesday morning appointments can also be scheduled beginning the day before).

Insurance conditions apply.

If a traditional Dermatology appointment better fits your needs (click on red and white table above), please visit our main department website or call the number listed above. These appointments can also be scheduled using the online appointment request (this option isn't available for Same Day appointments).

Clinic Hours

Monday- Friday afternoons and all day Tuesday. There may be some variation to better meet patients' needs.

About Same Day Dermatology

For the convenience of our patients, University of Utah Dermatology offers a Same Day Dermatology clinic. This allows a patient to schedule an appointment with a board-certified dermatologist when they need it most. Our clinic is the first and only in Utah to offer urgent outpatient access to skin care.

Why Same Day Dermatology?

The complexity of skin disease coupled with minimal dermatologic exposure in training can often leave non-dermatologists uncomfortable and ill-equipped. This can lead to inappropriate treatments, unnecessary prescriptions and unwanted or unnecessary side effects. At the Same Day Dermatology clinic, a subspecialist offers immediate care for the sickest of patients. Having a dermatologist evaluate skin conditions early often leads to an earlier diagnosis, the most effective treatment (and only when necessary) and better outcomes.

Same Day Dermatology vs. The Emergency Department

If you have a life-threatening condition, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. The Same Day Dermatology clinic is designed for people whose main concern is a skin condition. Last year 60% of our patients would have gone to the ED if Same Day Dermatology had not been offered. Rather than ED expensive visits, which don't utilize the life-saving services available at the ED, our clinic offers an expert at a significantly lower cost while minimizing waiting by offering a specific appointment time. These visits save patients and the health system money while allowing everyone to be seen by the team best equipped to serve them.
