Head and neck surgical oncology is the subspecialty of Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose and Throat) that deals with the medical and surgical treatment of tumors of the head and neck region. Doctors in this subspecialty treat both benign and malignant tumors with surgery along or with Medical Oncologists using chemotherapy and/or Radiation Oncologists using radiation therapy. Because the head and neck area is close to the skull, heart and lungs, Head and Neck Surgical Oncologists can at times work with Neurosurgeons or Thoracic Surgeons, depending on the tumor. The majority of these cases are treated by our team at the Huntsman Cancer Hospital.
