Bio

Jane Dyer has been a Certified Nurse Midwife for over 35 years. She has provided a wide variety of services for women and cared for them in a variety of settings including private practice, community health centers, family planning agencies and large group practices. She has attended births in small and large hospitals and birth centers. Her current practice focuses mainly on immigrant and refugee women with challenges in accessing appropriate health care.

Academic Bio

Jane M. Dyer received a BS in Nursing from the University of Southern Maine, and from the University of Utah an MS (Midwifery), MBA and PhD (Nursing). For over ten years, she served as the Director of the Nurse Midwifery and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner Program at the University of Utah, helping to achieve a top ten ranking for the program and is currently a faculty member for the NMW/WHNP Program. Dr. Dyer has practiced full scope midwifery in private / group, hospital / out-of-hospital birth center settings and is currently a nurse-midwife in the BirthCare HealthCare faculty practice. Dr. Dyer is Fellow of the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM), a member of the ACNM Division of Research, and the Southwest Area Educators. She serves on the Boards of Directors of community organizations to assist in meeting the health needs of the underserved. Successfully receiving HRSA Advanced Nursing Education funding, Dr. Dyer has lead the incorporation of simulation and technology for midwifery education at the University of Utah, as well as assured that students have cross cultural experiences within immigrant and refugee communities. Her research areas of interest include refugee, immigrant, ethnic and minority health, Latino health, community based research, and perinatal / women's health issues.
