Grant W. Cannon is Professor of Medicine, Division of Rheumatology, University of Utah and Associate Chief of Staff for Academic Affiliations at the VA Salt Lake City Health Care System.

He received his education and postgraduate training at the University of Utah, completing his Doctor of Medicine Degree in 1979, Internal Medicine Residency in 1982, and Rheumatology Fellowship in 1984.

His work has focused on clinical trials of anti-rheumatic drugs and basic science research in animal models of arthritis. Clinical research involved participation in multi-centered clinical trials of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and seronegative spondyloarthropathies. His most recent work has evaluated patients with rheumatoid arthritis in the VA rheumatoid arthritis (VARA) registry. Dr. Cannon has merged data from the VARA registry with VA administrative databases to evaluate pharmacoepidemiology issues and drug adherence in these patients.

Grant W. Cannon is Professor of Medicine, Division of Rheumatology, University of Utah and Associate Chief of Staff for Academic Affiliations at the VA Salt Lake City Health Care System.

He received his education and postgraduate training at the University of Utah, completing his Doctor of Medicine Degree in 1979, Internal Medicine Residency in 1982, and Rheumatology Fellowship in 1984.

Dr. Cannon is a fellow of the American College of Rheumatology and American College of Physicians. He has served on the editorial board of Arthritis and Rheumatism and serves as a reviewer for Arthritis and Rheumatism, Journal of Rheumatology, Journal of Clinical Rheumatology, Scandinavian Journal of Rheumatology, Clinical Drug Investigation Biopharmaceutics and Drug Disposition, and Expert Opinion on Pharmacotherapy. He has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Arthritis Foundation. He has served on multiple committees on local and national levels for the Department of Veterans Affairs, principally focusing on Graduate Medical Education and Associated Health Training.

As a researcher, his work has focused on clinical trials of anti-rheumatic drugs and basic science research in animal models of arthritis. Clinical research has involved participation in multi-centered clinical trials of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and seronegative spondyloarthropathies. These clinical trials have included both conventional compounds and biologic agents. The animal models research has focused on adjuvant-induced arthritis in rats with an emphasis on genetics controlling arthritis in these models. His most recent work has evaluated patients with rheumatoid arthritis in the VA rheumatoid arthritis (VARA) registry. Dr. Cannon has merged data from the VARA registry with VA administrative databases to evaluate pharmacoepidemiology issues and drug adherence in these patients.
