Gary M. Chan, M.D. is a Professor in the Division of Neonatology at the University of Utah, School of Medicine. He provides neonatology services at three facilities, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at University of Utah Hospital, Primary Children’s Hospital and Intermountain Medical Center. Among his responsibilities is educating Pediatric Residents, Neonatology Fellows and Neonatal Nurse Practitioners.

Academic Bio

Gary M. Chan's clinical interests are infant nutrition and feeding with special interest in calcium and bone problems. Dr. Chan is the director of the body composition and bone and mineral lab at the University Hospital.

Dr. Chan's research program focuses upon maternal and infant nutrition. His major emphasis is on calcium, vitamins, and bone mineralization. He is considered nationally an expert in neonatal nutrition and bone disorders. He has also focused on lactation and human milk research. The majority of his research is clinically based. He is the medical director of the bone and mineral laboratory. He has mentored over 50 premed, dietary students, medical students, and pediatric physicians in nutritional research.
