Amy Nelson worked for three years in a busy OB/Gyn practice specializing in Women’s Health care needs and concurrently worked in the OB Emergency Services unit at the University of Utah hospital. Recently, she began working with the BirthCare HealthCare unit primarily in the Teen Mother and Child clinic.

Amy is currently working on implementing uniformity, standardization and appropriate documentation of telephone triage calls for the labor and delivery patient. Amy served as the Education coordinator for the providers in OB Emergency Services.

Academic Bio

In 1997, Amy received her Bachelor of Science, Nursing from the University of Utah. She worked at the University of Utah hospital in Labor and Delivery. Amy has practiced nursing in various hospitals throughout the Salt Lake Valley, specializing in Labor and Delivery, postpartum and newborn cares. In 2001, Amy joined the University of Utah, AirMed OB team as a flight nurse and specialized in the care of the high risk OB patient and medical transport. From 2003 – 2004, she managed the OB AirMed flight team as the OB Chief flight nurse.

In 2006, Amy graduated from the Women’s health Nurse Practitioner program at the University of Utah, and in 2007 returned to complete the midwifery program. Her master’s project focused on the physiological needs of the teenage mother during pregnancy.
