Charity Coe is a Physician Assistant with the University of Utah’s Trauma and Emergency Surgery Service. She also Serves at the Advance Practice Clinician (NP/PA) Director of Clinical Operations for the Department of Surgery.
The Trauma Service provides care to patients who have been injured by a physical force, most often as a consequence of motor vehicle crashes, falls, drowning, gun shots, fire, stabbings, or blunt assault. Care includes the immediate or life saving measures, and addressing long term needs such as discharge planning, placement of nutrition support devices, and coordinating appropriate physical rehabilitation. The Trauma Service also serves as a coordinating service throughout a patients recovery to ensure that all injuries are addressed, they consult specialty teams such as Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, ENT, Plastic Surgery, Ophthalmology and others as needed.
Emergency Surgery - also called Acute Care Surgery, provides General Surgery Consultation and care for Emergency conditions such as appendicitis, gall bladder disease, bowel obstructions, abscesses and hernias that have progressed to the point of compromizing blood flow.
Charity joined the Trauma Service at University of Utah Hospital in 2008 after completing a Physician Assistant Residency in Surgery and Surgical Critical Care at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.
