Bio

Dr. Barton is the Chief of the Division of Emergency Medicine in the Department of Surgery, and has held this position since Nov, 2001. During his tenure he has led the department in the development of the first Emergency Medicine Resident Training program and a number of post-graduate fellowship training programs. His research interests are in emergency airway management, patient flow, and ED administration. He has served on a number of committees for the hospital and SOM, including serving as Medical Staff President and Assistant Vice President of Quality for University of Utah Health Care (2007-2009). He oversees all emergency medicine faculty, fellows and residents working at the main University Hospital emergency department, the South Jordan Health Center emergency department, and Cache Valley Hospital emergency department.

Dr. Barton also works as a volunteer physician for the Cat Cay Medical Clinic on Cat Cay island in the Bahamas. He love the mountains, skiing and lives up in Park City, Utah.
