Irene received her doctorate degree in nursing practice from the University of Utah in 2014. Prior to joining the Cardiology Clinic, she practiced as an independent clinician at Health Clinics of Utah providing primary care for patients from all ages and with diverse healthcare needs. Before becoming a nurse practitioner, she worked at the inpatient Cardiovascular and Cardiac Catheterization Recovery units at the University Hospital caring for patients with cardiovascular conditions, such as myocardial infarction, dysrhythmia, coronary bypass surgery, valvular diseases, cardiomyopathy and heart failure.

Irene's professional interests include cardiovascular medicine, preventive health and gerontology. She is committed to promote healthy aging for all individuals. In her leisure time, she enjoys travelling, hiking, cooking, baking, and singing.

She went over an Angiogram I had recently done. Explained mitral valve & stents along with findings from the Angiogram. As She is in the Cardiovascular Department, her knowledge in other bodily functions/ discomforts, was great as she explained what might be a symptom or where to receive care within the system. Conversation is great! She has a great smile and I do think that not only herself representing Dr. Welt in the department, but the whole UofU Hospital system is the best in the state of Utah and amongst the best in the nation!
