Bio

Dr. Bratton received her medical degree from the University of Arkansas Health Sciences University, completed her Pediatric residency at Primary Children´s Medical Center, and her Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Fellowship at the University of Washington. She was on the faculty at the University of Washington, Oregon Health Sciences and the University of Michigan before coming to the University of Utah. She also received additional training in epidemiology at the University of Washington School of Public Health. . Dr. Bratton is board-certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics.

She is currently a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Utah and is in the Division of Critical Care Medicine at Primary Children´s Medical Center. As the Fellowship Program Director she oversees the educational program for the critical care fellows..

Her academic interests focus on epidemiology and pediatric critical care and she has worked extensively of traumatic brain injury, use of ECMO in pediatric critical medicine and health disparities.

Academic Bio

Dr. Bratton's career as a researcher and educator began in 1993 at the University of Washington School of Medicine, where, she worked till 1998 as an instructor and then an Assistant Professor in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. She moved to Oregon Health Sciences University as an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and worked two years and then went to the University of Michigan and was promoted to Professor of Pediatrics. She moved to the University of Utah in 2006 as a Professor of Pediatrics and the Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program Director.

Dr. Bratton’s research focuses on epidemiology and pediatric critical care and has worked extensively of traumatic brain injury, use of ECMO in pediatric critical medicine and health disparities.

Dr. Bratton has written more than 100 publications, scientific papers, chapters, and abstracts. She served on the Brain Trauma Foundation Guideline Committees in 2003 and 2011 for the acute medical management of pediatric severe traumatic brain injury and the 2007 Adult Guideline Committee. She served on the editorial board for Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. She is the critical care contributor to AAP Grandrounds and serves on the American Board of Pediatrics Critical Care Medicine Subboard.

Susan L. Bratton, M.D., MPH is the Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program Director, where she oversees training for 9 fellows. She serves as a primary research mentor for junior faculty, critical care fellows, pediatric housestaff and medical students.

Dr. Bratton received her undergraduate education at Rice University and her M.D. from the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences. After completing postgraduate training in pediatrics and critical care medicine, she rose through the ranks to serve as a Professor.
