L. Dana DeWitt, M.D. is a clinical professor in the Department of Neurology. Her medical school training was at Tulane University in New Orleans. She then did an internship at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago followed by Neurology Residency at the University of Michigan where she was also chief resident. After this she did a 2 ½ yr. cerebrovascular disease fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School.
She then became Assistant Professor at Tufts University/New England Medical Center where she was on the stroke service and directed the transcranial Doppler laboratory. While at Tufts, she also became interested in multiple sclerosis. Her specialties continue to be stroke, MS and white matter disease. She is ABPN certified in Vascular Neurology.
She moved from Boston to University of Utah 4 ½ years ago looking for a change in lifestyle, excited about a medical center that draws from 5 states. Dr. DeWitt is a member of the brain attack team and interprets TCD. She is Medical Director of the inpatient Neurology/Neurosurgery service. She is PI of a large NIH sponsored MS trial (COMBI-Rx) and two other MS trials, is PI of a PFO closure in secondary stroke prevention trial, and is CoPI of a number of stroke studies.
She has had the honor of receiving awards as Best of Boston Magazine’s Top Docs for Women, Consumer Checkbook Top Docs, and Best Doctors in America 2005-2008.
