Dr. Bledsoe is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Utah, specializing in perioperative echocardiography. She is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology and the National Board of Echocardiography, both in Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography and Adult Echocardiography. She has a particular interest in the anesthetic approach to bariatric surgery and currently serves as the Director of Anesthesia for Bariatric Surgery. She is also a member of the preoperative clinic team, whose mission is to optimize patients' clinical conditions prior to surgery to minimize adverse events surrounding surgery. She is also involved in several process improvement projects designed to streamline the care of patients through the preoperative clinic to reduce waste by avoiding unnecessary clinic visits, excessive preoperative testing, and redundant paperwork.

Academic Bio

Dr. Bledsoe's academic interest includes research related to perioperative echocardiography. She and her colleagues are in the process of analyzing information from a database that includes over 500 echocardiograms primarily performed in the operating room. The goal is to use this information to identify why the echocardiograms are being performed, the findings of the studies, and if the use of this technology changes patient care and outcomes. She is also a consultant to the Physiology Department at the Veterans Affairs Hospital and participates in research exploring the effect of proteins on the regulation of skeletal muscle blood flow during exercise.

Dr. Bledsoe is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology. She supervises certified nurse anesthetists and anesthesia residents at the University of Utah Hospital and Veterans Affairs Hospital. She is passionate about furthering the education of residents and medical students. She is an instructor in the Department of Anesthesiology Clinical Simulator where medical students can practice placing spinals, arterial lines, endotracheal tubes, and central lines. She also participates in didactic lectures for anesthesia residents and medical students with topics including echocardiography and vascular anesthesia.
