Bio

Dr. Geiersbach is a medical director for Molecular Oncology. She is trained and board certified in Clinical Cytogenetics and Molecular Oncology. Her clinical practice is centered on the interpretation of somatic mutations in cancer using multiple technologies including PCR- and sequence-based tests, high throughput ("next generation") sequencing panels, immunohistochemistry, and fluorescence in situ hybridization. She has experience interpreting traditional karyotypes and whole genome chromosomal microarray for copy number abnormalities. She has developed and introduced multiple tests at ARUP Laboratories, including the molar pregnancy test with 16 DNA markers, the chromosomal microarray test for products of conception, FISH for ROS1 rearrangement detection in lung cancer, and others. She has also developed a new technology for precise dissection of tumor tissue from glass slides ("milling microdissection"), which is being commercialized by a local company, AvanSci Bio, LLC.
