- Nurse Practitioner
Terri Hancock, DNP, ACNP-BC, is a board certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner with the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Utah. As a Cardiothoracic Surgery Nurse Practitioner, Terri is interested in evaluating and improving the overall quality of care and clinical efficiency of cardiac and pulmonary surgery from the initial patient visit through discharge and into the outpatient setting.
Cardiothoracic surgery can be very stressful for patients and their families. Terri strives to provide meaningful and useful information to patients in order to give them the ability to make the best decisions for themselves regarding surgery. By involving patients in every possible step of the cardiothoracic surgery process, their sense of control is maximized and overall stress is reduced.
Terri earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice with a specialization in Acute Care from the University of Utah in 2011. Her doctoral project examined the quality of life outcomes for heart failure patients after autologous stem cell therapy. Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, Terri had 16 years of critical care nursing experience working in the ICU and with a medical flight transport team on fixed-wing aircraft, Ventricular Assist Device Team, and Intra-aortic Balloon Pump Team. She maintains her Critical Care Registered Nurse certification and certification with multiple mechanical circulatory support devices.
