Bio

Dr. Jeffrey Ekstrand is an assistant professor of Pediatrics in the division of Child Neurology. His undergraduate training was at Stanford University; he obtained his MD and PhD degrees at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, and did his Pediatrics and Neurology/Pediatric Neurology residency/fellowship at the University of California in Los Angeles.

Dr. Ekstrand’s clinical focus is the treatment of Epilepsy. He also engages in basic science and translational research studying the mechanisms of how epilepsy develops in the immature brain using model systems of prolonged status, febrile seizures, and neonatal birth injuries from hypoxic-ischemia. He is particularly interested in the role of neuronal injury/death and other alterations in the brain that contribute to the development of epilepsy.
