Pegah Afra, MD focuses her practice on the diagnosis and treatment of seizures and epilepsy. Her specific interests include presurgical evaluation and treatment of intractable epilepsies, invasive intracranial electroencephalography (EEG) monitoring, and magnetoencephalography (MEG). Dr. Afra is currently investigating the use of MEG in presurgical evaluation of intractable and surgically amenable epilepsies.

I love my appointments with Dr. Afra. She is so thorough in explaining my condition, my medication and any changes, as well as other activities which would benefit my condition. She is pleasant and shows great concern in my understanding as well as answering any questions I may have. You are fortunate to have her talents at the University!

I'm very fortunate to have Dr. Afra as my neurologist. It's quite evident she genuinely is concerned with the various aspects and personal circumstances involved with my epileptic condition. She was informative of what is good for (and bad for) the epileptic brain, and explained or answered the concerns and questions that were brought up.

Academic Bio

Dr. Pegah Afra is an Assistant Professor of Neurology at the University of Utah. She received her medical training in Albert Szent Gyorgyi Medical University in Szeged, Hungary. She then completed her internship in internal medicine in Southern Illinois University, three years of neurology residency in University of Wisconsin, and two years of fellowship in epilepsy and clinical neurophysiology in Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Afra is currently utilizing MEG in presurgical evaluation of intractable and surgically amenable epilepsies and to investigate the basis of variations of human cognitive function including synesthesia.
