Bio

Thomas A. Pilcher, MD is a specialist in pediatric cardiology and electrophysiology. He has special training to attend to children with all forms of heart rhythm disorders. He performs intracardiac ablations of abnormal heart rhythms and implants cardiac rhythm intervention devices such as pacemakers and automatic internal cardioverter defibrillators (AICD). Having specific research interests in cardiac defibrillation, he has been awarded a research grant to perform computer modeling of cardiac defibrillation.

Academic Bio

Thomas Pilcher, M.D. is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology. Dr Pilcher is an electrophysiologist and performs interventional electrophysiology procedures including catheter ablations and pacemaker/AICD implantations.

Dr. Pilcher received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in physics at Baylor University. He then received his M.D. from Baylor College of Medicine. After completing postgraduate training in pediatrics at Texas Children’s Hospital, he completed pediatric cardiology and electrophysiology fellowships at the Medical University of South Carolina. He then moved to his current position here at the University of Utah where he also serves as the director of pediatric ECG and outpatient monitoring.

Dr. Pilcher is the Principal Investigator on a grant from The Primary Children’s Medical Foundation. He works in collaboration with the Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute and department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Utah and performs computer modeling of defibrillation
