John H Bowers MD is a Board Certified Gastroenterologist and current Faculty Supervisor for the GI Fellows' Clinic 3 at the University of Utah School of Medicine. He holds a BS in Medical Biology from the U of U in 1966 and an MD degree from the U of U in 1970. He completed his internship in Internal Medicine at Duke University in 1971. He then spent 3 years active duty in the US Army as a medical officer, during the Viet Nam conflict, serving with the 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Army Barracks, Hawaii. He returned to the U of U in 1974. He completed his GI fellowship in 1976 and completed 2 years of additional Internal Medicine training in 1978. He served as Chief Medical Resident at the U of U from 1977 to 1978. He served as a U of U faculty member from 1980 to 1983. He worked in private practice from 1978 to 1980 and 1983 to 1995. Thereafter, he practiced at Mountain West Gastroenterology until 2010. He currently holds the position of Instructor for the University of Utah GI Division.
He has written many journal articles, book chapters and has given numerous medical presentations. Dr Bowers is Board Certified in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine.
