Antioxidants such as beta-carotene and vitamins C and E, found in fruits and vegetables, are important for good health. But in a case of more isn't necessarily better, boosting your intake of antioxidants by taking supplements won't necessarily help protect against Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia, some studies suggest. Although studies have shown an association between an increased intake of antioxidants and a reduced risk for Alzheimer's disease, the National Institutes of Health says that researchers still aren't sure whether these factors can actually prevent the disease. Experts recommend that instead of increasing your antioxidant intake, make sure your diet includes plenty of fruits and vegetables.
