University Hospital

Inpatient Rehabilitation

Purpose

To increase patients quality of stay by providing social interaction and meaningful activities during patients non-therapy hours.

Reports To

Recreation Therapists, Hailey Hadean and Denise Whitten

Days/Hours

Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 1 to 4 pm

Qualifications

Must be able to work under limited supervision.

Must possess good interpersonal skills

Must be willing to receive training on specific needs of patients

Must be organized and willing to help where needed

Must agree to a minimum of 100 hours


Volunteer Duties/Responsibilities

Volunteers will be responsible for implementing  and distributing activities such as:

  • iPad
  • Crafts
  • Magazines
  • Games
  • Newspaper
  • DVD’s

 Volunteers will be working closely with recreation therapists and expected to interact with the patients helping them complete activities, provide social interaction and educate the patients on how to use technology such as the iPads.
