About Your Stay

During your stay, our staff of physicians and health care professionals will make your visit as comfortable as possible while providing you with the latest in health care technology. This page will walk you through the process of becoming an inpatient (a patient staying overnight).

Pre-Planning

What to Consider Bringing

  • Long distance telephone calling card
  • Battery operated shaver/razor
  • Toothbrush, deodorant, shampoo, hairbrush, toothpaste, lotion (Ivory or Castile soap and Crest toothpaste is available in your room)
  • Robe & slippers, pajamas, sleepwear or leisurewear (hospital pajamas are available)

What Should be Left at Home

  • Valuables (including your wedding ring)
  • Electrical appliances (i.e. curling iron, hairdryer)
  • Food (Check individual department for requirements)

Parking

Free Valet Service is available from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Free parking is available for patients and visitors in the parking terrace located northwest of the hospital's main entrance. As you approach the hospital, follow the blue and white signs to the free parking (north) and the visitor pay lot (south). We also have a limited number of inexpensive RV parking spaces and services available.

Admitting

Your doctor will decide what day you will be admitted for treatment. However, if you are being admitted through the Emergency Department, they will schedule your admittance.

Admitting Office

When you arrive, please check in with the Admitting Office located on the main floor, just south of the lobby. Go through the lobby, straight down the hall and turn left into the Admitting Office. You may need to bring the following information with you:

  • Insurance Card
  • Credit Card, Check Book
  • List of all Current Medications
  • Physician's Name
  • Identification & Social Security Card
  • Pre-Registration Information (If you need this information, please call the Pre-Registration office at 801-297-4970)
  • Test Results from Other Hospitals
  • Advance Directives
  • Prior Approval or Preauthorization Form
  • Co-Payment

Once Admitted

Care Team

This hospital is a teaching facility which means that you as a patient are participating in the training of tomorrow's physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other health care professionals.

Doctors

You will be cared for by a team of doctors supervised by your attending physician who is a member of the medical school faculty. Your physician team may also include two to three residents (physicians receiving specialty training) and a medical student(s). Other physician specialists may also be involved in your care.

Nurses

Our nursing staff will provide you with 24-hour nursing care. During each nursing shift, a specific nurse is assigned to care for you. Each patient care unit is under the supervision of a charge nurse and nurse manager.

Health Care Professionals

In addition to doctors and nurses, you will be visited by health care assistants and laboratory technicians. You may also see a physical and respiratory therapist, pharmacist, social worker, chaplain, dietitian, nutrition care associate and our housekeeping staff.

Patient Advocate

A Patient Advocate will be visiting you during your stay to make sure you are as comfortable as possible. If you would like to speak with a representative from the Patient Advocate Program, please call 801-581-2699.

Meals

Your nutrition care associate will serve your meals and note your food preferences. If you have any questions about your diet, menu or would like to order items from the kitchen, please call 801-581-2157.

Discharge Information

Your health care team will determine and arrange the day of your discharge. Please make arrangements for your transportation home prior to this day. If you are having problems arranging your departure, please make your health care team aware of the situation so they may assist with your leave. Discharge is at 11 a.m. We recommend that your transportation arrive by 10:30 a.m.

During your stay, your health care professionals will go over the care you will need upon leaving the hospital with you or your family. They will also provide you with information on the resources and services available to assist you with your continued care.
