About Us

Since 1991, our Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) program has been providing peripheral blood and bone marrow stem cell transplants to patients with blood cancers and other diseases of the bone marrow.

We have a dedicated multidisciplinary team of transplant subspecialists and experienced staff that help each patient navigate through all phases of the transplant process.

Transplants

The BMT program performs a range of stem cell transplants:

These transplants are processed within our state-of-the-art Cell Therapy and Regenerative Medicine facility located at the University of Utah.

Research

We have a broad research portfolio, including:

  • Innovative therapies for each disease, like AML, ALL, CML, myeloma, myelofibrosis and lymphoma
  • New medications, antibodies and extracorporeal photochemotherapy (ECP) for acute and chronic GVHD
  • Gene expression profiling of multiple myeloma to identify genes that aide to predict outcomes

BMT Physician Team

The Huntsman BMT Program Difference

Expertise

  • Every physician, midlevel provider, and nurse is subspecialized in the care of BMT patients.
  • Our transplant physicians have a long clinical and research track record in the field.

Continuity of care with a customized approach

  • We understand that every patient is unique. We treat our patients, not just their diseases.
  • The transplant physician that performs the initial consultation becomes the patient's primary transplant physician, ensuring continuity of care throughout the transplant process.
  • We take care of your disease, without forgetting that this affects you as a person and also your loved ones.
  • A transplant coordinator is assigned to each patient. The coordinator guides the patient through the pre transplant process and coordinates communication with the rest of the transplant team.

Communication

  • During the initial consultation, our physicians will spend as much time as needed to fully evaluate the patient, and discuss all treatment options.
  • The transplant team holds weekly meetings to discuss each patient's case as a group, and determine the best available treatment.
  • Our attending physician will communicate directly with the patient's referring physicians as needed.

State-of-the-Art Infrastructure and Therapy

We are committed to defining the next generation of treatments for hematologic malignancies through our clinical trials.

"Through our sometimes quite difficult experiences over the last year, we have grown to find a greater faith in our family and beliefs, and a great love and appreciation for those in the BMT program who have served me and my family. They have grown to be an integral part of my family.""—Jeff Griffin
