Russell completed a BA in economics and PharmD at University of Florida in Gainesville. Following graduation in 2013, he pursued PGY1/PGY2 residency training at University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics, and concurrently earned a Master of Science in Health-System Pharmacy Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Russell started at University of Utah Health Care in 2015 and is currently serving as a pharmacy operations manager at University Hospital and Huntsman Cancer Hospital.

She also earned her Master of Science degree in Health System Pharmacy Administration from Ohio State University. Dr. DeMarco is the Operational Supervisor of Pharmacy Services at HCI.

Makala Pace

Dr. Makala Pace graduated from pharmacy school at the University of Utah. She completed her PGY1 pharmacy practice residency in Madison, Wisconsin at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics, and completed her PGY2 oncology pharmacy residency in Houston, Texas at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Pace worked at MD Anderson Cancer Center for 7 years as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist with a primary focus in thoracic, head & neck medical oncology. Since 2012, she has been working at the Huntsman Cancer Institute and Hospital as a clinical pharmacist.  She is currently the oncology clinical coordinator and works in the sarcoma clinic.

Dan Sageser completed his doctor of pharmacy training at the University of Utah in 1994. He then completed his postgraduate year (PGY2) residency training at the Pittsburgh Cancer Institute in Pennsylvania. In addition to working at HCI, his professional experience includes community hospital (Southwest Washington Medical Center) and private practice (Northwest Cancer Specialists). He serves as clinical manager at HCI, residency director of the hematology/oncology PGY2 program, and adjunct assistant professor at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy.

I moved up to a Pharmacy Tech II while working there and also received certification in preparing chemotherapy.

Hobbies: Shawn enjoys playing the great Highland Bagpipe in his spare time and is also a shameless geek, enjoying such things as gaming, cosplay, makeup effects, and miniature painting.
Preferred method of navigating snow-capped mountain peaks: Shawn prefers to go through the Mines of Moria despite the dager of goblin infestation and possible encounters with Balrogs. Mountains were never meant to be crossed OVER; that’s why they provide convenient provincial and governmental barriers.

Katie was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. After earning her BS degree from the University of South Florida, she traveled to Charleston, South Carolina to complete her Doctor of Pharmacy from the Medical University of South Carolina. Katie completed her PGY1 pharmacy practice residency at the University of Utah and is looking forward to continuing with specialty training in oncology at Huntsman Cancer Institute.

Katie enjoys outdoor activities, going to sporting events, cooking and traveling in her spare time. She hopes to explore all of Utah’s national parks, learn to ski and try new restaurants.

Emma Carroll, PharmD

Emma recently completed her PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice residency at the University of Utah and is excited to stay on for training as a PGY-2 in oncology at Huntsman. She graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy. Outside of pharmacy Emma is a huge Chicago Blackhawks fan. In her free time she has been exploring all of the outdoor adventures that Utah has to offer including going skiing for the first time and hiking. She loves to eat out at new restaurants and especially loves Mexican food. In her previous career she was a hairstylist and continues to keep up on fashion and hair-styling as a hobby.

Vanessa Copeland, PharmD

Vanessa was born and raised in Fremont, CA. I received a BS in Biological Chemistry from University of Chicago, completed an ORISE Fellowship at FDA Office of Women's Health, received my PharmD from Ohio State, and my PGY1 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. I am excited to continue my training with a PGY2 in Oncology and to explore another region of the country.

In my free time I enjoy trying new restaurants and coffee shops, rollerblading, and watching classic movies. I am looking forward to improving my skiing skills and visiting national parks in the upcoming year.

Halee was born and raised in a charming small town called Price, Utah. She later moved to North Dakota to complete her BS and BA in Corporate Fitness and Chemistry at Minot State University, but returned back to Utah to complete her Doctorate of Pharmacy at the University of Utah. She completed her PGY1 pharmacy practice residency at Utah Valley Hospital in Provo, Utah. She is excited to return back to the University of Utah and looks forward to training in oncology/hematology at Huntsman Cancer Institute.

In her spare time, she thoroughly enjoys staying active and being outdoors with family and friends. She loves playing any kind of sport and watching basketball and football with her husband.

After PGY1 training, she moved to the beautiful state of Utah to complete oncology training at the Huntsman Cancer Institute. She currently works at HCI in the outpatient clinic for gastrointestinal malignancies and in Phase 1 clinical trials. Trang is also completing her post-doctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy where she works on patient-centric outcomes projects across a broad range of cancers.

She worked for a year as an oncology pharmacist at University of California San Diego Moores Cancer Center, but decided to come back to Salt Lake City. Prior to pharmacy school he worked in industry developing novel therapeutics. He is a postgraduate year two (PGY2) hematology/oncology pharmacy specialty resident. He works in both the Huntsman Cancer Institute ICU and pharmacy outcomes research center (PORC).

Research Interests: Drug transporters role in pharmacokinetics and resistance to chemotherapy

Hobbies: Seeking anti-gravity in the mountains by bike, skis, or shoes while enjoying the gravity

Preferred method of navigating snow-capped mountain peaks, listed in order of preference:

  • Backcountry powder day = split snowboard
  • High avalanche danger resort day = skis
  • High pressure system = skate skis

Jessica Streeter

Jessica graduated with her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque in 2007, then completed PGY1 training at New York-Presbyterian Cornell and Columbia Medical Centers in New York City in 2008. She worked as an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at the University of New Mexico prior to her PGY2 at HCI in 2011. Jessica then spent three years as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Thoracic and General Oncology at The James Cancer Hospital at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. She returned to HCI in 2015 as an Oncology Specialty Pharmacist in Gynecologic and Genitourinary Cancers.

Dr. Tran completed her doctor of pharmacy training at Saint Louis College of Pharmacy. She received her bachelor of science in pharmacy from the Saint Louis College of Pharmacy, then completed her PGY1 residency at Texas Tech University School of Pharmacy followed by a PGY2 residency in hematology/oncology.
