Personal Optimism with Exercise Recovery (POWER)

Physical activity is an important part of cancer recovery. It can help manage many common cancer-related symptoms and side effects:

  • Reduce fatigue
  • Increase strength and endurance
  • Improve mood and self-esteem
  • Increase quality of life and independence

The Wellness-Survivorship Center Personal Optimism with Exercise Recovery (POWER) program creates an exercise prescription for cancer patients based on diagnosis, treatment type and phase, and personal fitness goals. It includes the following services:

  • A physical assessment
  • Individual exercise program design and monitoring
  • Group circuit training
  • Weight management

Classes and Seasonal Activities

After participants attain a base level of fitness, they are encouraged to attend free classes and seasonal activities sponsored by the Wellness and Integrative Health Center:

View a schedule of group fitness classes and class descriptions to learn more about each activity. Through these activities, participants increase their fitness levels as well as enjoy the company of others coping with a cancer diagnosis.

Huntsman Hometown HerosThe Huntsman Hometown Heroes program is designed to help participants reach their endurance goals while raising much-needed funds for cancer research at Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI). Participants agree to raise a minimum amount of money while receiving a guaranteed spot in some of the best events in Utah.

Activities are open to all current and past Huntsman Cancer Institute patients. To make an appointment, call the POWER program at 801-587-4585 or leave a message at 801-339-2613.
