The mission statement for Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) includes relief of suffering for cancer patients. To meet that goal, the Supportive Oncology and Survivorship (SOS) Service is available to HCI patients. This service provides a foundation of support to those struggling with cancer and includes a focus on pain, symptom management, and psychosocial distress.
Who might benefit from this service?
Anyone facing a life-threatening cancer or who has concerns about pain management, quality of life, or prognosis may benefit from the SOS Service. Many types of distress can affect a cancer patient, and it often takes an interdisciplinary team to address all areas of concern.
The SOS team is made up of providers who specialize in areas of pain management, palliative care, psycho-oncology, psychosocial distress, complementary and integrative medicine, prognosis, spiritual distress, caregiver support, end-of-life care, and survivorship. Patients have access to all members of the team and can be supported throughout their cancer experience at HCI. All care will be coordinated with their primary oncology team.
Refer patients to the SOS Service through Julie Howell, oncology patient coordinator, at 801-213-4246.
