Community Health Educator

Community Health Educator (CHE)

Nationally, CHEs are individuals experienced in communications, comprehensive cancer control, training, program planning, and evaluation. They are embedded into National Outreach Network’s (NON) program sites around the country. Huntsman Cancer Institute, a National Cancer Institute designated Cancer Center has been awarded grant funding to expand the current Community Outreach and Prevention Education (COPE) program through the efforts of a CHE. The CHE housed within COPE will address health disparities in 4 identified rural health districts in Utah.

CHE mapCHE Objectives

Assess
the needs and resources for cancer prevention, screening, and access to treatment among rural and frontier counties in the state of Utah. We hope to bring the community together to better understand the unique health needs in each targeted rural health district identified in the map.

Implement tailored programs, including education, that improve prevention behaviors and screening behaviors, as well as access to reliable cancer information, the HCI Genetic Counseling Shared Resource, and clinical trials available to our Cancer Center.

Evaluate the effectiveness of the selected health education strategies to improve health behaviors and provide access to cancer information, early detection and treatment, clinical trials, survivorship resources, and genetic counseling among rural populations.
