Salivary Analysis of Eosinophilic Esophagitis

Study Description

Salivary samples will be taken from patients with dysphagia, EoE and/or refractory EoE:1) To determine whether specific salivary proteins are elevated in patients with EoE as compared to controls without EoE and other patients with atopic disease such as asthma2) To distinguish whether histologic improvement in EoE  (defined by reduction of eosinophils in esophageal mucosa) correlates with improvement in Salivary proteins3) To distinguish whether resolution of EoE as defined histologically as <20 eosinophils/HPF can be detected via a non-invasive method such as salivary testing for inflammatory proteins
