Region's Top-Rated Neurology, Neurosurgery Specialists Hail from University of Utah
SALT LAKE CITY – Eleven University of Utah Neurosciences specialists were named in the first U.S. News Top Doctors directory, a free, searchable database that lists nearly 30,000 peer-nominated physicians across the country. They were the only 11 physicians in these specialties named in the Intermountain Region.
The U.S. News Top Doctors directory augments the Best Hospitals rankings, which is released each year in July. The magazine ranked the University of Utah Hospital among the nations’ best.
All of the Utah neuroscientists named to the directory are recognized for their contributions to their fields locally, nationally, and internationally”, said Richard Shumway, Director of the University’s Clinical Neurosciences Center. “These physicians are experts in terms of patient care, but are also involved in research studies to understand the causes of and developing new treatments for a wide array of neurological conditions.
Named to the prestigious Top Doctors directory are:
- Anne Osborne, MD
- Stefan-M. Pulst, MD (listed in Los Angeles);
- James Bale, MD,
- Mark Bromberg, Md, PhD;
- Kathleen Digre, MD
- William T Couldwell, MD, PhD;
- Daniel Fults, III, MD;
- Randy Jensen, MD, PhD;
- Marion Walker, MD;
- Doug Brockmeyer, MD;
- John Kestle, MD
“The purpose of the Top Doctors list is to help consumers find the doctors who can best address their needs, and the list is generated by asking physicians who they feel are most worthy of referrals”, Shumway added.
According to the US News & World Reports, the Top Doctors differs from other US News rankings like Best Hospitals, Best Diets, and Best Colleges in that no single specialist will be ranked as the number 1 doctor for all patients with a particular condition. Rather, the Top Doctors list is a data-rich directory of excellent doctors, coupled with sophisticated searching and sorting tools to help each consumer find the doctor who’s right for his or her needs.
U.S. News Top Doctors was created in collaboration with Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., publisher of America's Top Doctors and other consumer health guides. It draws from Castle Connolly's database of Top Doctors, all recommended for their clinical skills by other doctors and individually vetted by a physician-led research team.
