Functional Neurosurgery

Functional Neurosurgery/Epilepsy has a long history at the University of Utah. Functional neurosurgery includes treatment of diseases such as Parkinson's disease and essential familial tremor. We have treated many patients successfully with deep brain stimulation (placement of electrodes in certain structures of the brain) to help alleviate their symptoms. Surgery for reducing the severity of and sometimes curing seizures is also performed at the University.

This type of surgery is done in conjunction with our epilepsy neurologists. Neurologists help decide if a patient is a candidate for surgery and should make an initial evaluation. Please call (801) 585-6040 for help in getting in touch with a neurologist at the University. Dr. Paul House can be reached through his clinical nurse coordinator Cynthia Belsky RN at cynthia.belsky@hsc.utah.edu .
