Our Mission
The Mission of the Neurosciences Critical Care Unit (NCCU) is to provide the best care in the region for patients with serious neurological injuries and diseases. Through patient and family centered care, the highly trained care-givers in NCCU diligently work to improve outcomes for patients with trauma, injury, or illness of the brain and central nervous system. We are committed to improving their quality of life.
About Us
NCCU is the only dedicated Neurosciences Critical Care Unit in the Intermountain West. We are a 12 - bed adolescent and adult Intensive Care Unit, directed by Neurological Intensivists and an expert team of specialized healthcare professionals. Patients in our unit are recovering from various neurological disorders such as:
- Aneurysms
- Traumatic Head Injuries
- Strokes
- Spinal Cord Injuries
- Post-Operative Tumors
- Nervous System Syndromes
- Seizures / Epilepsy
- Arteriovenous Malformations
- General Trauma and Surgical problems

- Doctors are all licensed, specialized Physicians including: Neurosurgeons, ICU Intensivists, Neurologists, and a team of Neurosurgery and Neurology Residents
- Registered Nurses with focused training and certifications in Critical Care and Neurological injuries
- Clinical Social Workers and Case Managers
- Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapists
- Registered Dietitians and Nutritionists
- Registered and Certified Respiratory Therapists

Visitors to NCCU
The NCCU is located in the University Hospital on floor 2 (directions). Please refer to the Patient and Visitor Info page for detailed policies and guidelines for visitors to the inpatient units, as well as directions and maps to the University of Utah Hospital. NCCU is a critical care unit; for the safety and care of the patients, please look through the visitor information carefully before visiting the NCCU.
