Work Schedule:
Typical work hours fall between 7 am and 6 pm, however, incumbent may be required to working irregular hours or shifts including nights and weekends to accommodate specific learner or project schedules. Some overtime may be required.
 
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a related clinical area; current licensure to practice in the State of Utah; two years of direct clinical experience; experience organizing and conducting formal adult education programs; and demonstrated teaching, coordination and communication skills.   BLS Certification is required upon hire, and BLS Instructor status is required within one year of hire.  Demonstrated interpersonal skills required. Must possess and demonstrate a high level of computer skills, and be able to teach and support the instruction of the organization’s electronic medical record and other clinical computer systems.    Master’s degree in Nursing or a related area and certification in staff development and continuing education are preferred.
 
Responsibilities:
Incumbent may be assigned to various projects in the department, but the primary focus will be on education for clinical staff in support of the Exceptional Patient Experience, and education supporting organizational quality projects. Responsibilities 1. Plans, develops, implements and evaluates clinical education for general department needs and for designated area of focus. 2. Utilizes the education process to identify educational needs, develop training materials and lesson plans, and implement divisional, departmental and institutional staff development and continuing education programs.   3. Demonstrates leadership in organizational activities through committee, task force and project participation. 4. Integrates research into clinical practice and education programs. 5. Facilitates the implementation and integration of standards into practice. 6. Documents educational activities in compliance with departmental, organizational and external agency requirements. 7. Facilitates change in practice based on emerging health care trends and technology. 8. Coordinates and facilitates educational programs as assigned. 9. Functions as a resource/consultant for new employees, students, clinical departments, educators and leaders. Problem Solving The Staff Development Educator provides leadership in clinical education, clinical research, and patient education while functioning within the scope of the Hospital’s policies and procedures. This position requires independent functioning, higher level problem solving and decision-making skills due to the varied and complex issues encountered by the incumbent. The incumbent regularly interacts with all levels of licensed and non-licensed personnel.   Major challenges for the incumbent include anticipating needs and guiding the educational programs for nursing. The Staff Development Educator acts as catalyst for change and interacts with the unit/department, division and ancillary departments. Comments The expected amount of actual bedside or clinical care will be dependent upon the area and projects for which the incumbent will coordinate educational activities. The staff member must be able to demonstrate and maintain the knowledge and skills necessary to provide clinical education to the staff on his or her assigned area or project.
