University Orthopaedic Center

Trauma Service

The trauma service is comprised of three attendings, three resident, and one nurse practitioner. Daniel Horwitz, M.D., Thomas Higgins, M.D. and Erik Kubiak, M.D. cover approximately half of the trauma calls, with the remainder covered by three attendings and several fellows (joint and spine). The majority of fractures treated are the result of blunt injury, with a strong representation of complex plateau, pelvic and acetabular injuries. The operative volume treated here has steadily grown over the past ten years, and based on population estimates for the valley, we expect this trend to continue. Our faculty have research interests related to timing and methods of fixation, and both are heavily involved in teaching through involvement with the AAOS and the OTA.
