Manager

CoheeKim graduated from the University of Utah with an undergraduate degree in Physical Therapy (1984), and her Masters Degree in exercise physiology (1993). She then received her DPT degree and her OCS designation both in 2006. Currently, Kim is the manager of the University of Utah Orthopedic Center PT and Hand Therapy Departments initially joining the University Sports Medicine Clinic in 1992 as a staff physical therapist.. In addition to her general orthopedic background, she offers clinical expertise in the care of persons with muscle imbalances, and in women with pregnancy related back pain. She is also involved in the American Physical Therapy Association, helping to form policy for our professional association and representing Utah physical therapists at the national level.

Bill Bean, MS, PT, ATC

BeanBill graduated from Utah State University with an undergraduate degree in physical education (1971), from the University of Utah with an Masters Degree in Sports Medicine (1977), and a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy (1986). Head Athletic Trainer at the University of Utah since 1976 and currently Director of the Sports Medicine Program in the Athletic Department. Bill offers an expertise in sports medicine, foot biomechanics, and orthotic fabrication and is highly sought after as a speaker on these topics. He was instrumental in establishing the SMC in 1989. Personally, he enjoys fly fishing and other activities with his wife and two sons.

Misha Bradford, PT, DPT, OCS

BradfordMisha earned both her Master and Doctor of Physical Therapy degrees from the University of Utah. She is a board certified specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy. Since 1998, she has also been on faculty in the University of Utah Department of Physical Therapy, where she teaches orthopedic evaluation and rehabilitation; pathokinesiology; and, thermal, electrical, and mechanical modalities. She is also an adjunct Clinical Instructor in the University of Utah Athletic Training Education Program. Misha enjoys reading, playing outdoors, traveling, and playing with her friends and family.

Dave Carter, PT, DPT,CMPT,CSCS

Carter

Dave graduated in 1991 from Chapman University with a Masters in Physical Therapy. He received a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Science from the University of Utah in 1989. In 2008 he received his Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of Utah. Dave has worked extensively in an outpatient setting with orthopedic extremity injuries and clients with spinal dysfunction. Although clinical work has been his focus, he is also involved in program development, marketing, and service team participation.  Dave tenaciously pursued advanced manual therapy training from the North American Institute of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy (NAIOMT) and earned a Certified Manual Physical Therapist (CMPT) clinical certification in May 2004.  He was a Lab Assistant for over 9 extended NAIOMT continuing education courses from 1999 to 2001 and an Adjunct Clinical Instructor for the Manual Therapy Lab at the University of Utah School of Physical Therapy from January 2001 through May 2004.   He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association and a member of the United States Tennis Association. Dave is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association and currently serving as a delegate for the Utah Chapter.

Pat Ericson, BS, PTA

EricsonPat graduated from Utah State University with an Bachelor of Science in Communicative Disorders in 1981. While in the Army Reserves, she completed her A.S. in Physical Therapy at St. Phillips College in 1986. She has practiced in a variety of setting including geriatrics, home health, chronic pain, aquatic therapy and orthopedics. Presently, she directs the aquatic physical therapy program at the University Orthopaedic Center. She is licensed pool operator and lifeguard. She has been a member of APTA and a state chapter liason and delegate. She is an adjunct instructor for the University of Utah School of Physical Therapy. She enjoys swimming, gardening, hiking and spending time with her husband and 2 daughters.

Barbara Fink, PT, DPT, OCS, CMPT

Barbara received her undergraduate degree in Physical Therapy in 1988 from Temple University. She completed her doctorate in physical therapy (DPT) through Creighton University in 2003. She has practiced in a variety of settings and locations including acute care, rehabilitation, home health, orthopaedics and sports medicine. Barbara focuses her patient care in orthopaedics and sports medicine with a special interest in manual therapy and injury prevention. She has a board certification as an orthopedic clinical specialist (OCS) and is a certified orthopedic manual physical therapist (CMPT).  She enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter, bicycling, skiing, and camping.

Chuck Graybill, PT, DPT, MS

Chuck received his Bachelor of Science in physical therapy 1979 from the University of Utah.  He also earned both a Master of Science in Gerontology 2005, and Doctor of Physical Therapy 2008 from the University of Utah. In 1993, he attended The University of Minnesota Executive Health Care Management Program and was instrumental in the formation of the SMC at the University of Utah. Prior to starting the SMC in 1988, Chuck worked at the University Hospital, in private practice, and with intercollegiate athletes in the University of Utah Athletic Department. Since 1989, he has treated patients with a variety of orthopedic injuries, managed the Sports Medicine Center, the creation and implementation of the Park City Ski Resort Clinic.  He was on faculty for six years in the University of Utah Division of Physical Therapy program, teaching the gerontology course and assisting with the Human Anatomy labs.  Chuck has also been a certified Feldenkrais Practitioner since 2003. Chuck continues to work full time in orthopedic patient care, both inpatient and outpatient at UOC. Chuck enjoys his annual family trip home to Oklahoma with his wife and 2 children, skiing, golf, and hiking.

Teresa Hall, PT

HallTeresa graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Physical Therapy in 1991. She practiced in a sports medicine practice in the Salt Lake Valley and Park City, working with high level recreational and Olympic athletes until 1996. She then worked for 2 years in Philadelphia, broadening her treatment emphasis by developing a women's health program. Upon her return to Salt Lake City in 1998, she joined the University Physical Therapy department where she has since focused her practice in orthopedic spine rehabilitation. She also makes regular presentations to community groups and local businesses regarding back safety and ergonomically correct work station set ups. She has been pursuing an advanced manual therapy certification through the North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy, developed physical therapy protocols for post-operative rehabilitation from spinal surgery and is a Clinical Instructor. Teresa enjoys spending time with her husband and son. Her recreational hobbies include cycling, skiing, reading and gardening.

Shereen Haslam, LMT

HaslamShereen earned her Massage license in 1991, in bodywork. She has been focused in clinical rehabilitation. Her specialty is directed in the orthopedic aspect of manual therapy with emphasis on traumatic injury, chronic pain, muscle strains, sprains and fatigue patterns.  Shereen  joined the University of Utah Hospital  in 1999 and was the first Licensed Massage Therapist on staff.  She received extensive training through Oregon Health Sciences  University Hospital in providing Massage therapy to patients receiving cancer treatments. Shereen loves being outdoors  and is happiest when she is cycling, hiking and spending time with her two kids. 

Debbie Hein-Helgren, PT

HeinDebbie has been practicing physical therapy since her graduation from the University of Utah (1982). Debbie brings a broad base of skills and knowledge to our staff as she has practiced in the Caribbean (Peace Corp Volunteer), a rehabilitation hospital in Idaho, acute care and hospice/home health care in Arizona. She joined the SMC staff in 1992 and has focused her continuing education efforts in orthopedic physical therapy since that time. She earned her clinical doctorate in physical therapy in  August 2008. Debbie is particularly interested in upper and lower extremity muscle imbalances and has completed a series of courses in this area. 

Tim Henry, MPT, CMPT

HenryTim graduated from Oakland University, Rochester Michigan, with a Masters Degree in Physical Therapy in 1997. He practiced in outpatient orthopedics at Bon Secours-Cottage Health Services in Michigan following graduation. In addition to his staff position, he also coordinated the regional orthopedic based study groups and facilitated discharge planning for the clinic. Tim has attained his certification of manual therapy (CMPT) through the North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy. He has also completed clinical residencies with this organization. He joined the staff at the University of Utah Orthopedic Center in 2003. He has been appointed to the Auxiliary Faculty of the University of Utah as Clinical Instructor in Physical Therapy. He is currently pursuing his Post-Professional Doctor of Physical Therapy at the University of Utah. Tim is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association. In his free time, Tim enjoys rock climbing, back country skiing, and hiking.

Laura (Lo) Knapp, DPT, MS, OCS

KnappLaura graduated from the University of Utah Physical Therapy Program in 1984. She received her Masters Degree in Exercise Physiology in 1991, completed a graduate program in manual and orthopedic therapy in 1996 and earned her clinical doctorate in physical therapy in 2006. She has been board certified as an orthopedic clinical specialist since 1997. Prior to joining the UOC in 1989, Lo worked as a PT in the Peace Corps in the Caribbean. She is a nationally and world-ranked master's swimmer. She enjoys recreational cycling and skiing.

Dave Larson, MPT

LarsonDave graduated from Quinnipiac University in Physical Therapy in 1988. He is certified in Cyriax advanced orthopaedics and has worked in Sports Medicine and Orthopedic settings since graduation. Dave enjoys everything about the outdoors, especially mountain biking, snowboarding and golfing.

Monica Ludlow, DPT, OCS, CMPT

Monica graduated from USC Master of Physical Therapy Program in 1991. Has undergraduate degree from UC Davis in Psychobiology and a Master's in Exercise Physiology from CSUN. 

LudlowMonica completed a manual physical therapy program through the North American Institute of Manual Therapy (NAIOMT) and became a Certified Manual Physical Therapist (CMPT) in 2002 as well as becoming a Board Certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) in 2001. She taught as a Clinical Instructor at the University of Utah Division of Physical Therapy from 1997-2004. She completed her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in the Spring of 2008, her project was on coccydynia. She has worked in pediatric PT for 3 years and the rest of her career in adult orthopaedics. Monica enjoys spending time with her husband and sons as well as skiing, running, biking, hiking and anything outdoors.

Robin Marcus, MS, PT, OCS

MarcusRobin has been practicing physical therapy since graduating from the University of Utah in 1983, and at the SMC since the opening of the clinic in 1989. Completed a residency program in orthopedic and manual physical therapy in 1992; became board certified as an orthopedic clinical specialist in 1993; completed her Masters Degree in Health Education in 1988; received her PhD in Exercise and Sport Science in 2000. Robin is also a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Physical Therapy where she teaches kinesiomechanics, research, and orthopedic evaluation and treatment. She has an interest in motor control and learning in persons with musculoskeletal dysfunction and in preventing injury in young people through posture, strength and flexibility training. Robin enjoys her family, good friends, marathon running and being outside.

Lloyd Mayer, DPT, OCS

MayerLloyd graduated from the University of Utah with his degree in Physical Therapy. He has over 21 years of experience in orthopedic physical therapy. He is a past Vice President and treasurer of the Utah Chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association. Mr. Mayer has completed a two-year post-graduate program through the Kelsey Institute in Orthopedic Physical Therapy and is a Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist. He is adjunct faculty with the University of Utah Department of Physical Therapy teaching clinical orthopedics and therapeutic exercise. Lloyd enjoys cycling and swimming.

Whitney Meier, DPT, OCS

MeierWhitney graduated from the University of North Dakota with a Masters Degree in Physical Therapy in 1994. She has been an Orthopedic Board Certified Specialist since 2001. She was the Facility Manager for United Medical Center Health and Fitness Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming for 8 years. Whitney helped develop the Sports Medicine and Balance Clinics for United Medical Center Outpatient Rehabilitation Center. She practiced in Boise, Idaho for 2 years in out patient private practice settings before moving to Salt Lake City in pursuit of her doctorate in Physical Therapy. Her doctoral project involved working with post-operative total knee patients and comparing a high level resistance training program to eccentric rehabilitation. Whitney is ancillary faculty at the University of Utah Department of Physical Therapy and as the University of Utah Orthopedic Center in physical therapy. She enjoys working with students in the progression of their academic and clinical careers. Whitney enjoys spending time in the Utah mountains. She is the mother of 2 cats, Teva and Merlot and an aussie named Jesse.

Sean Ostrowski, MPT

OstrowskiSean graduated from the University of New Mexico with a Masters Degree in Physical Therapy in 2003.  While in New Mexico he practiced at Carrie Tingley Children’s Hospital, which is part of the University of New Mexico Hospital system.  There he helped develop a pediatric outpatient sports/orthopedic program as well as an obesity prevention program.  He also helped develop pediatric ACL protocols, participated in sports clinics with UNM team physicians and conducted outreach programs to local sports teams for ACL injury prevention programs. He moved to Utah in 2005 and subsequently joined  the UOC as a staff physical therapist.  Additionally he is currently co-teaching  a class as adjunct faculty to the University of Utah Physical Therapy program. When not at work Sean can be found either renovating his home or mountain biking, trail running or snowboarding with his wife, Angie, and his two australian shepherds.  

Todd Reich, PT

ReichTodd graduated in 1986 from the Physical Therapy program at the University of Utah.  He then became employed at the Cottonwood Back Institute where he worked for almost 10 years providing care for lumbar and cervical problems.  While there he also directed the work hardening program. While working at the Cottonwood Back Institute he graduated from a two year post graduate program at the Kelsey Institute.  He then became the Rehab Services Manager at Holladay Health Care a skilled nursing facility. He then joined the University of Utah Orthorpeadic Center and practiced in a private clinic in Park City for one and a half years.  Afterward he joined the University program in Salt Lake particitpating in the Pain Clinic and outpatient orthopeadic clinic.  In his spare time he enjoys watching his kids play soccer and road /mountain biking.  

Linda Vernon Scholl, MPT

VernonLinda graduated from the University of Utah with a Masters in Physical Therapy in 2000, and Honors Bachelors of Science in Exercise Physiology. She has practiced in outpatient orthopedic and sports medicine settings in Salt Lake City, UT and Jackson Hole, WY. She is auxiliary faculty at the University of Utah Division of Physical Therapy, teaching Human Anatomy and Neuroanatomy labs, and assists with patient-student related activities in musculoskeletal evaluation. Linda assists the clinic teaching a ski conditioning class offered every fall preparing people for a healthier ski season. She has taught the University of Utah men's basketball team weekly classes on core strengthening, and ran a Bumps & Bruises Clinic for high-school athletes. Her recent continuing education pursuits include working toward her doctoral physical therapy degree, and focusing in manual therapy and muscular imbalances. She served 4 years on the board of the Utah Chapter APTA. She was a certified EMT for 13 years. Linda enjoys spending time and being active with her husband, Mark Scholl, an orthopedic surgeon. She also enjoys family and friends, trail-running with her 2 dogs, skiing, biking, climbing and cooking.

David Taylor, PT, DPT

David Taylor graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Physical therapy in 1991.  He recently completed a post-professional Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at the University of Utah, with his graduate project focused on shoulder and scapular kinematics and their relationship to shoulder pathology.  He has practiced in outpatient sports medicine and orthopedic physical therapy settings for the past 18 years.  He was the clinic director of a private practice sports medicine clinic and while there developed a biomechanical golfer’s assessment and treatment program.  He currently participates part-time in clinic with Dr Burks, working on a team-approach patient care model for post-surgical knee and shoulder patients.   David enjoys spending time with his family, cycling, running, and playing the drums. 

Patty Trela, PT, DPT, CMPT

TrelaPatty received her Physical Therapy degree in 1986 from Temple University. Manual Therapy training and certification was completed through NAIOMT in 2002. She graduated from Creighton University in 2005 with her Doctoral degree. Patty has been a practicing physical therapist at the University of Utah Sports Medicine clinic, now the Orthopaedic Center, since 1990. She has been actively involved in education of Physical Therapy students and Physical therapists. She has served on a couple boards for the Education section of the American Physical Therapy Association and continues to be active in the profession. Patty has published 1) "CCCE reference manual for Physical Therapists", 2002 and 2) " Injuries and Rehabilitation in Kayaking and Canoeing", Chapter 40 in Women in Sport, IOC Encyclopedic Book of Sports Medicine, 2000. She developed and started the "Build a Bone" Program in 2005, an osteoporosis prevention and treatment program, and continues to offer this program at the UUOC.  Also involved in outreach programs at local High Schools and community events to teach kids about good bone health and fracture prevention. Patty has received the 2008 Physical Therapist of the Year Award from the American Physical Therapy Association (Utah APTA) and is a member of the National Osteoporosis Foundation. She enjoys road biking, hiking, walking, skiing back country, cross country and alpine white water rafting.
