Kim Cohee, MS, PT, DPT, OCS
Manager
Kim graduated from the University of Utah with an undergraduate degree in Physical Therapy (1984), and her MS in exercise physiology (1993). She then received her DPT degree and her OCS designation both in 2006. Currently, Kim is the manager of the University of Utah Orthopedic Center PT and Hand Therapy Departments initially joining the University Sports Medicine Clinic in 1992 as a staff physical therapist.. In addition to her general orthopedic background, she offers clinical expertise in the care of persons with muscle imbalances, and in women with pregnancy related back pain. She is also involved in the American Physical Therapy Association, helping to form policy for our professional association and representing Utah physical therapists at the national level.
Bill Bean, MS, PT, ATC
Graduated from Utah State University with an undergraduate degree in physical education (1971), from the University of Utah with an MS in Sports Medicine (1977), and a BS in Physical Therapy (1986). Head Athletic Trainer at the University of Utah since 1976 and currently Director of the Sports Medicine Program in the Athletic Department. Bill offers an expertise in sports medicine, foot biomechanics, and orthotic fabrication and is highly sought after as a speaker on these topics. He was instrumental in establishing the SMC in 1989. Personally, he enjoys fly fishing and other activities with his wife and two sons.
Misha Bradford, PT, DPT, OCS
Misha earned both her Master and Doctor of Physical Therapy degrees from the University of Utah. She is a board certified specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy. Since 1998, she has also been on faculty in the University of Utah Division of Physical Therapy, where she teaches orthopedic evaluation; kinesiology; and, thermal, electrical, and mechanical modalities. She is also an adjunct Clinical Instructor in the University of Utah Athletic Training Education Program. Misha enjoys biking, reading, playing racquetball, traveling, all sweets, and playing with her friends and family.
Dave Carter, MPT , CSCS
David graduated in 1991 from Chapman University with a Masters in Physical Therapy. He received his Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Science from the University of Utah in 1989. He has worked extensively in an outpatient setting with orthopedic extremity injuries and clients with spinal dysfunction. He has provided coverage and care for several sports organizations, including the University of Utah, Utah Grizzlies, and local high schools. David has tenaciously pursued advanced manual therapy training from the North American Institute of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy (NAIOMT). His is a Clinical Instructor for numerous physical therapy programs, a lab assistant for NAIOMT, and has made many presentations to companies in the Salt Lake Valley. David is currently a delegate for the Utah Chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). He is a faculty instructor at the University of Utah School of Physical Therapy and received the Outstanding Clinical Instructor award in 2001. David is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. He is also an active member of the APTA, United States Tennis Association and National Off Road Biking Association.
Lee Dibble, PT, PhD, OCS
Lee received his undergraduate education in physiology from UC Davis (1989), his MS in physical therapy from Duke University (1991), and his PhD in Exercise and Sport Science (2001). As part of his undergraduate education, Lee also completed the requirements to become a certified athletic trainer. Currently he is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Division of Physical Therapy where he teaches neuroanatomy, and neurologic evaluation and treatment. In addition to his general orthopedic and athletic training skills, Lee brings an expertise in motor control and learning to our clinical setting. Outside of work, Lee enjoys spending time with his family and friends, and participates in outdoor recreation activities (trail running, biking, and skiing).
Pat Ericson, BS, PTA
Pat graduated from Utah State University with an B.S. in Communicative Disorders in 1981. While in the Army Reserves, she completed her A.S. in Physical Therapy at St. Phillips College in 1986. She has practiced in a variety of setting including geriatrics, home health, chronic pain, aquatic therapy and orthopedics. Presently, she directs the aquatic physical therapy program at the University Orthopaedic Center. She is licensed pool operator and lifeguard. She has been a member of APTA and a state chapter liason and delegate. She is an adjunct instructor for the University of Utah School of Physical Therapy. She enjoys swimming, gardening, hiking and spending time with her husband and 2 daughters.
Barbara Fink, PT, DPT, OCS
Received her undergraduate degree in Physical Therapy in 1988 from Temple University. She completed her doctorate in physical therapy (DPT) through Creighton University in December of 2003. She has practiced in a variety of settings and locations including acute care, rehabilitation, home health, orthopaedics and sports medicine. Barbara now focuses her patient care in orthopaedics and sports medicine with a special interest in manual therapy. She has a board certification as an orthopedic clinical specialist (OCS) and is a certified orthopedic manual physical therapist (CMPT). She works in physical therapy and in clinic with Dr. Robert Burks, assisting with data collection, patient education, protocol establishment, and patient education. She enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter, bicycling, skiing, and camping.
Chuck Graybill, PT, MS
Received his physical therapy education from the University of Utah where he graduated in 1979. In 1993, he attended The University of Minnesota Executive Health Care Management Program. Chuck was instrumental in the formation of the SMC here at the University of Utah. Prior to starting the SMC in 1989, Chuck worked at the University Hospital, in private practice, and with intercollegiate athletes in the University of Utah Athletic Department. Since 1989, he has treated patients with a variety of orthopedic injuries, managed the Sports Medicine Center, the creation and implementation of the Park City Ski Resort Clinic, coordinated physical therapy care for the World Cup cross-country ski race in Park City in 1991, coordinated the University Hospital's efforts at the Franklin Quest senior PGA golf tournament in Park City. Chuck has recently returned to full time patient care. Chuck enjoys his annual family trip home to Oklahoma with his wife and 2 children, skiing, golf, and hiking.
Teresa Hall, PT
Teresa graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Physical Therapy in 1991. She practiced in a sports medicine practice in the Salt Lake Valley and Park City, working with high level recreational and Olympic athletes until 1996. She then worked for 2 years in Philadelphia, broadening her treatment emphasis by developing a women's health program. Upon her return to Salt Lake City in 1998, she joined the University Physical Therapy department where she has since focused her practice in orthopedic spine rehabilitation. She also makes regular presentations to community groups and local businesses regarding back safety and ergonomically correct work station set ups. She has been pursuing an advanced manual therapy certification through the North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy, developed physical therapy protocols for post-operative rehabilitation from spinal surgery and is a Clinical Instructor. Teresa enjoys spending time with her husband and son. Her recreational hobbies include cycling, skiing, reading and gardening.
Shereen Haslam, LMT
Shereen graduated from the Utah College of Massage Therapy in 1991. Since then she has had the challenge and opportunity to work with Physical therapists, Physicians and Nurses to provide patients with a multidisciplinary approach to rehabilitation. She joined the University Of Utah Hospital and worked with Rehab Specialty Clinic as the first massage therapist on staff in 1999. In 2001, she received extensive training at the Oregon Health Sciences University Hospital, administering treatment to patients with cancer. This eventually led her to a position at the Huntsman Cancer Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. For the past three years, she has been focusing her practice in orthopedic rehabilitation. Shereen enjoys spending time with her husband and four children. Her hobbies are hiking with her dog and skiing.
Debbie Hein-Helgren, PT
Has been practicing physical therapy since her graduation from the University of Utah (1982). Debbie brings a broad base of skills and knowledge to our staff as she has practiced in the Caribbean (Peace Corp Volunteer), a rehabilitation hospital in Idaho, acute care and hospice/home health care in Arizona. She joined the SMC staff in 1992 and has focused her continuing education efforts in orthopedic physical therapy since that time. Debbie is particularly interested in upper and lower extremity muscle imbalances and has completed a series of courses in this area. She spends her free time with her husband and two great kids.
Tim Henry, PT
Tim graduated from Oakland University, Rochester Michigan, with a Masters Degree in Physical Therapy in 1997. He practiced in outpatient orthopedics at Bon Secours-Cottage Health Services in Michigan following graduation. In addition to his staff position, he also coordinated the regional orthopedic based study groups and facilitated discharge planning for the clinic. Tim has attained his certification of manual therapy (CMPT) through the North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy. He has also completed clinical residencies with this organization. He joined the staff at the University of Utah Orthopedic Center in 2003. He has been appointed to the Auxiliary Faculty of the University of Utah as Clinical Instructor in Physical Therapy. He is currently pursuing his Post-Professional Doctor of Physical Therapy at the University of Utah. Tim is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association. In his free time, Tim enjoys rock climbing, back country skiing, and hiking.
Laura (Lo) Knapp, DPT, MS, OCS
Laura graduated from the University of Utah Physical Therapy Program in 1984. Received her MS in Exercise Physiology in 1991, and completed a graduate program in manual and orthopedic therapy in 1996. Became board certified as an orthopedic clinical specialist in 1997. In addition to her clinical work, Lo is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the University of Utah Division of Physical Therapy. She teaches orthopedic evaluation and treatment. Prior to joining the UOC in 1989, Lo worked as a PT in the Peace Corps in the Caribbean. She is a nationally ranked master's swimmer.
Dave Larson, MPT
Graduated from Quinnipiac University in Physical Therapy in 1988. He is certified in Cyriax advanced orthopaedics and has worked in Sports Medicine and Orthopedic settings since graduation. Dave enjoys everything about the outdoors, especially mountain biking, snowboarding and golfing.
Monica Ludlow, MPT, OCS, CMPT
Monica graduated from USC Master of Physical Therapy Program in 1991. Has undergraduate degree from UC Davis in Psychobiology and a Master's in Exercise Physiology from CSUN. Completed a manual physical therapy program through the North American Institute of Manual Therapy (NAIOMT) and became a Certified Manual Physical Therapist (CMPT) in 2002 as well as becoming a Board Certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) in 2001. She taught as a Clinical Instructor at the University of Utah Division of Physical Therapy from 1997-2004. She has worked in pediatric PT for 3 years and the rest of her career in adult orthopaedics. Monica enjoys spending time with her husband and son as well as skiing, running, biking, hiking and anything outdoors.
Robin Marcus, MS, PT, OCS
Has been practicing physical therapy since graduating from the University of Utah in 1983, and at the SMC since the opening of the clinic in 1989. Completed a residency program in orthopedic and manual physical therapy in 1992; became board certified as an orthopedic clinical specialist in 1993; completed her MS in Health Education in 1988; received her PhD in Exercise and Sport Science in 2000. Robin is also a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Physical Therapy where she teaches kinesiomechanics, research, and orthopedic evaluation and treatment. She has an interest in motor control and learning in persons with musculoskeletal dysfunction and in preventing injury in young people through posture, strength and flexibility training. Robin enjoys her family, good friends, marathon running and being outside.
Lloyd Mayer, MPT, OCS
Lloyd Mayer graduated from the University of Utah with his degree in Physical Therapy. He has over 18 years of experience in orthopedic physical therapy. He is a past Vice President and treasurer of the Utah Chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association. Mr. Mayer has completed a two-year post-graduate program through the Kelsey Institute in Orthopedic Physical Therapy and is a Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist. He is an adjunct faculty member with the University of Utah Division of Physical Therapy teaching.
Whitney Meier, PT, MS, OCS
Whitney graduated from the University of North Dakota with a Masters degree in Physical Therapy in 1994. She has been an Orthopedic Board Certified Specialist since 2001. She was the Facility Manager for United Medical Center Health and Fitness Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming for 8 years. She helped develop the Sports Medicine and Balance Clinics for United Medical Center Outpatient Rehabilitation Center. She practiced in Boise, Idaho for 2 years in out patient private practice settings before moving to Salt Lake City in pursuit of her doctorate in Physical Therapy. Her doctoral project involves working with post-operative total knee patients and comparing a high level resistance training program to eccentric rehabilitation. She is currently the CCCE and a staff physical therapist at the University of Utah Orthopaedic Center Outpatient Physical Therapy. When not on the University of Utah campus, Whitney enjoys spending time in the Utah mountains. She is the mother of 2 cats, Teva and Merlot and an aussie named Jesse.
Linda Vernon Scholl, MPT
Linda graduated from the University of Utah with a Masters in Physical Therapy in 2000, and Honors Bachelors of Science in Exercise Physiology. She has practiced in outpatient orthopedic and sports medicine settings in Salt Lake City, UT and Jackson Hole, WY. She is auxiliary faculty at the University of Utah Division of Physical Therapy, teaching Human Anatomy and Neuroanatomy labs, and assists with patient-student related activities in musculoskeletal evaluation. Linda assists the clinic teaching a ski conditioning class offered every fall preparing people for a healthier ski season. She has taught the University of Utah men's basketball team weekly classes on core strengthening, and ran a Bumps & Bruises Clinic for high-school athletes. Her recent continuing education pursuits include working toward her doctoral physical therapy degree, and focusing in manual therapy and muscular imbalances. She served 4 years on the board of the Utah Chapter APTA. She was a certified EMT for 13 years. Linda enjoys spending time and being active with her husband, Mark Scholl, an orthopedic surgeon. She also enjoys family and friends, trail-running with her 2 dogs, skiing, biking, climbing and cooking.
Patty Trela, PT, DPT, CMT
Patty received her Physical Therapy degree in 1986 from Temple University. Manual Therapy training and certification was completed through NAIOMT in 2002. She graduated from Creighton University in 2005 with her Doctoral degree. Patty has been a practicing physical therapist at the University of Utah Sports Medicine clinic, now the Orthopaedic Center, since 1990. She works here 5 days/week, morning and early afternoon shift; Tuesdays she works in the hand clinic. She has been actively involved in education of Physical Therapy students and Physical therapists. She has served on a couple boards for the Education section of the American Physical Therapy Association and continues to be active in the profession. Patty has published 1) "CCCE reference manual for Physical Therapists", 2002 and 2) " Injuries and Rehabilitation in Kayaking and Canoeing", Chapter 40 in Women in Sport, IOC Encyclopedic Book of Sports Medicine, 2000. She developed and started the "Build a Bone" Program in 2005, an osteoporosis prevention and treatment program, and continues to offer this program at the UUOC.
