PGY1 Pharmacy Residency
Program Description:
The University of Utah's PGY1 residency program in community care is an organized, directed, postgraduate training program in community pharmacy practice. Multiple PGY1 resident positions will be available each year. Residents may participate in several elective experiences to meet their professional goals in addition to the required experiences in medication therapy management, developing a patient care service, clinical skill building, academia and precepting and pharmacy management. The program will be in pre-candidate status through ASHP during the 2011-2012 residency year.
Highlights of Experience:
PGY1 residents in Community Care at University Health Care have a very diverse experience balancing clinical, academia and management amongst many longitudinal experiences. Residents will learn and practice the skills necessary to develop a patient-centered pharmacy practice in order to advance community pharmacy practice in the state and throughout the country. Residents will receive patient care experiences and skills necessary to become capable, confident and innovative community pharmacy practitioners and gain experience in providing education to pharmacy students and other professionals. Residents develop skills as clinicians, project managers, writers, educators, and presenters.
Qualifications:
Candidates must graduate from an ACPE-accredited pharmacy program with a doctor of pharmacy degree (or equivalent combination of education and clinical experience). Applicants must be eligible for Utah licensure and are expected to obtain licensure as a pharmacist in Utah within the first 60 days of the start of the program year.
Recruitment and Selection:
The following information must be submitted by January 4, 2011 for the applicant to be considered for an onsite interview: completed application form, College of Pharmacy transcripts and three letters of recommendation. Completed applications are reviewed, and competitive applicants are invited to attend an on-site, full-day interview in January or February. The program will participate in the Resident Matching Program of ASHP.
Salary and Benefits:
Pharmacy residents are classified as full-time, benefited employees of the University of Utah. They are paid a competitive salary and also receive a benefits package that includes health, dental and life insurance, paid time off and various staff discounts. Travel benefits to attend the APhA Annual meeting and the Western States Residents Conference held each spring are available.
