Pharmacy Practice Residency Program
Postgraduate Year One (PGY1)
Program Description
University Health Care's PGY1 residency program is an organized, directed, accredited, postgraduate training program in health-system pharmacy practice. Five PGY1 resident positions are available each year. Residents select 8 elective rotations to meet their professional goals in addition to the required experiences in practice and operations orientation, project weeks, drug information, and pharmacy administration. Residents receive experience in a wide variety of acute care, ambulatory care, and specialty consult areas. The program is ASHP accredited.
Program Goals
- Residents develop the knowledge and skills needed to enable them to provide a high level of clinical service and pharmaceutical care throughout their careers.
- Residents are trained in acute care, ambulatory care, drug information, practice management, and drug policy development in order to become well-rounded practitioners and practice leaders.
Highlights of Experience
PGY1 residents at University Health Care have a great deal of flexibility in selecting from a long list of rotation options. The experience can be modified as the resident’s career plans develop throughout the year. The residency preceptors and medical teams view the resident as both a learner and a colleague. Residents develop skills as a clinician, project manager, writer, instructor, and presenter.
